Durban at a glance
Originally called Rio de Natal by Vasco d Gama when he visited in 1497 Durban later received its name from a governor of the Cape Colony named Sir Benjamin D'Urban. Durban is a cultural melting pot of diversity, ethnicity and top-class cuisine that represents culinary influences from around the world. Located on the northeast coast of South Africa and being the biggest port, Durban is the heart of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Durban is 30 kms from the King Shaka International airport and close to Umhlanga in the North, Amanzimtoti in the South and the Upper Highway area inland.
