James grew up on a family farm in the Paarl area and his entire schooling was done at Paarl Boys Primary and High School. He was, and still is, keen on all forms of sports. Having played rugby and swum competitively at school and university, he now sees scuba diving and fishing as a perfect way to spend time relaxing with his wife
and two boys. Following his schooling he completed his compulsory national service and left the army with the rank of Lieutenant. He then attended Rhodes University where he qualified with a BSc Honours degree in Ichthyology. After pioneering marron farming in South Africa for 18 years, he took up a new challenge and entered the real estate industry with Pam Golding Properties in 2005. Here he worked as a specialist in the agricultural sector, selling farms and small holdings. Consistently earning the status of top earning Gold Club agent within the company is testimony to his success as an Agricultural property agent. Having spent over 45 years in the Boland farming arena, his understanding of the area is very sound. His knowledge of the intricacies of both farming and land development, as well as the requirements of lifestyle and commercial buyers, has been his staff; his integrity the mainstay of his success.
He believes that a good relationship with sellers as well as buyers is key to matching people and properties perfectly – something he does with passion and a real sense of enjoyment. After being with Pam Golding Properties for 10 years, James recently joined the Harcourts Winelands team to head up a new and all-encompassing specialist Agricultural Division which will cover the entire Winelands area. Backed by the company’s exceptional technology and dynamic management, he believes that this new dedicated entity will be more effective in sourcing and matching the property requirements of buyers. At the same time, sellers will benefit from a wider reaching network of buyers.
