History
In the early 1820's Port Frances and Port Kowie were founded. In 1841 South Africa's first man made harbour was opened here.  After numerous name changes, in 1860, Port Alfred was renamed in honour of Prince Alfred, Queen Victoria's son.

Port Alfred is located between 2 cities, Port Elizabeth and East London, on the breath-taking Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape. The distance from Port Alfred to either of these 2 cities airports, is approximately 110 kms.  Port Alfred is a vibrant residential area, yet still offers that quaint fishing village feeling.

Education
Port Alfred residents have a variety of schools to choose from, be it Model C, Christian, or Private schooling from pre-primary to matric.  Varsity students can attend Stenden University, an Institution of Higher Education.  The 43 Air School is a flight training organisation offering a wide range of aviation courses.
